Some days require more strength than we feel we have. A difficult conversation, an unexpected change, or a long season of responsibility can leave us tired and unsure.
Scripture reminds us that courage does not come from pretending we are never afraid. It grows as we remember who God is, rely on His strength, and move forward with Him.
These ten Bible verses can encourage you when you need strength for today and courage for what comes next.
1. Joshua 1:9 — God Goes With You
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua faced a responsibility larger than anything he had carried before. God did not tell him to be courageous because the task was easy. He told him to be courageous because God would be with him.
2. Philippians 4:13 — Christ Gives Strength for Your Calling
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
This verse is not a promise that every wish will come true. It is an assurance that Christ supplies strength to remain faithful in every circumstance He allows us to face.
3. Isaiah 40:29 — God Gives Power to the Faint
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”
Feeling weak does not disqualify you from God’s help. Weakness can become the very place where His strength is most clearly received.
4. Psalm 28:7 — Trust Turns the Heart Toward Praise
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”
God is both strength for the journey and protection along the way. As we trust Him, help and gratitude begin to replace fear.
5. 2 Timothy 1:7 — Fear Is Not Your Identity
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear can speak loudly, but it does not define what God has placed within you. Through Him, you can respond with courage, love, and wise thinking.
6. Deuteronomy 31:8 — God Will Not Abandon You
“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
Before you arrive at the next challenge, God is already there. His presence is not fragile, and His care does not disappear when the path becomes difficult.
7. Psalm 18:2 — God Is a Secure Place
“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”
When life feels unstable, God remains a firm foundation. You can run to Him for security, protection, and renewed strength.
8. Ephesians 6:10 — Be Strong in the Lord
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Scripture does not tell us to depend only on our own energy. Lasting spiritual strength comes from the Lord and the power He provides.
9. Nehemiah 8:10 — The Joy of the Lord Is Your Strength
“Neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Joy is not the denial of pain. It is the deep confidence that God is present, good, and still at work. That kind of joy gives strength when circumstances are difficult.
10. Psalm 27:1 — You Do Not Have to Live Ruled by Fear
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Fear loses some of its power when we focus on the greatness of God. He lights the way, saves, and strengthens us for whatever lies ahead.
A Short Prayer for Strength
Lord, I feel tired and uncertain, but I know that Your strength is greater than my weakness. Go before me, steady my thoughts, and give me courage for the next right step. Help me rely on Your power instead of trying to carry everything alone. Amen.
